POTS & Autonomic Health
Thoughtful virtual care for autonomic dysfunction and complex multi-system symptoms
Rise Women’s Health offers virtual consultations for patients experiencing symptoms that may be related to autonomic dysfunction, including suspected or diagnosed Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) and related conditions.
Care emphasizes thoughtful assessment, patient education, symptom management strategies, and collaborative planning designed to support daily function and quality of life.
You May Recognize These Symptoms
Autonomic symptoms may overlap with hormonal, migraine, connective tissue, gastrointestinal, chronic pain, or other multi-system health concerns. Many patients spend years navigating fragmented care pathways, repeated testing, or uncertainty about how their symptoms fit together.

This service may be appropriate when persistent symptoms affect daily function – particularly when symptoms appear multi-system, positional, difficult to explain, or have not fully responded to previous treatment.
Care is designed not only to address symptoms, but to support function, confidence, activity tolerance, and long-term quality of life.
Why Autonomic Symptoms Can Be Difficult to Recognize
Many autonomic symptoms overlap with other health concerns, including hormonal changes, migraines, connective tissue disorders, gastrointestinal conditions, chronic pain conditions, and anxiety.
As a result, patients are often referred between multiple providers, undergo repeated testing, or receive explanations that only partially account for their symptoms.
Assessment focuses on understanding the full clinical picture, identifying symptom patterns, and helping patients better understand how autonomic dysfunction may contribute to their overall health experience.
Approach to Care
Autonomic concerns are often complex and highly individualized. Care through Rise Women’s Health focuses on understanding symptom patterns, reviewing previous investigations and treatments, identifying potential gaps in assessment, and helping patients build practical and sustainable management strategies.
Virtual autonomic consultations may include:
- Detailed symptom and history review
- Review of previous investigations and specialist consultations
- Autonomic assessment and symptom evaluation
- Tailored education regarding pacing, hydration, compression, exercise progression, and autonomic regulation that meets you where you are
- Discussion of individualized management strategies
- Recommendations for further investigations or referrals where clinically indicated
- Collaborative care coordination with primary care providers, specialists, physiotherapists, and allied health professionals when appropriate
Care That Meets You Where You Are
Some patients arrive with an established diagnosis and are looking for ongoing support or a second opinion. Others may be experiencing symptoms that suggest autonomic dysfunction but have not yet received a diagnosis.
There is no requirement to have everything figured out before seeking care.
Appointments are designed to provide education, discussion, and individualized care planning while recognizing that each person’s experience may be different.
Supporting Function and Quality of Life
Living with autonomic dysfunction can affect far more than heart rate or blood pressure. Symptoms may influence work, parenting, exercise, sleep, social activities, and overall quality of life.
While symptom improvement is an important goal, care also focuses on helping patients improve daily function, build confidence in symptom management, and develop practical strategies that support long-term wellbeing.

POTS & Autonomic Health FAQs
Do I need a formal POTS diagnosis?
No. Patients do not require a formal diagnosis of POTS or autonomic dysfunction prior to consultation. Many patients seek care while still trying to better understand persistent symptoms or after previous testing has been inconclusive.
Care focuses on thoughtful assessment, symptom patterns, functional impact, and determining appropriate next steps when clinically indicated.
Can care still help if previous testing has been normal?
Yes. Many patients experiencing autonomic or multi-system symptoms have had previous investigations that were normal, incomplete, or difficult to interpret in the context of their symptoms.
Virtual autonomic consultations focus not only on test results, but also on clinical history, symptom patterns, function, and individualized management strategies.
Is this appropriate for long COVID-related symptoms?
Some patients experiencing persistent symptoms following COVID-19 infection may also experience symptoms consistent with autonomic dysfunction, exercise intolerance, migraines, fatigue, or chronic multi-system symptom patterns.
Suitability for care depends on individual circumstances, symptoms, previous investigations, and overall clinical presentation. Some patients may benefit from autonomic-focused assessment, education, and symptom management strategies as part of a broader care plan.
Can men access POTS and autonomic health care at Rise Women’s Health?
Yes. Rise Women’s Health’s POTS and autonomic health services are available to patients of all genders, including men. While many of our services focus on women’s health, our autonomic health program provides assessment, education, treatment planning, and ongoing support for individuals experiencing POTS, dysautonomia, and related concerns.
Virtual consultations are available to eligible patients located anywhere in Ontario.
What if I've been told my symptoms are anxiety?
Many autonomic symptoms can overlap with anxiety, including palpitations, dizziness, nausea, temperature dysregulation, and feelings of internal activation. Assessment focuses on understanding the full clinical picture and recognizing that symptoms may have multiple contributing factors.
